I had no time to scan my storyboarding, plus it went completely different way anyway. I've planned it to be very similar to what is written in the book:
1. After flooding + rainy day - welsh weather playing up if you need sun - it's raining, when you need rain it's sunny! In this case I had to make filming during sunny day, as I had no time to wait.
2. Little boy in the book took his little paper boat and played on the street, but again because weather was very good, I had to change plan and find some other place to film it so the boat can move and the clown can jump out from somewhere. I spoke with my friend and he told me there is a stream in Llantwit (I had to do my filming there as it's where they live, and because Jacob and Bruno will be my main actors I have to go there to do it) so I decided it would be a good idea. Completely different from what's in the book but will do.
3. There were two brothers in the book older - making a boat, and younger playing with the boat after. And my plan was to film my friends' kids Jacob and Bruno (their age is same as age of boys in the book). But Bruno (11 years old) who have some health problems (autistic) decided not to take part, so I had to change plan again and film only Jacob.
4. Boy in the book was in yellow rain coat and red wellies, I tried my best to find some even yellowish or redish clothing/footwear but after one day of visiting all shops I gave up. There were some on e-bay and online stores but it would take ages plus Jacob would boil in this rain coat! I bought green wellies and decided that if all action is completely different than planned then this little detail would make no difference at all! So he dressed in green (cargo) jacket and green wellies and shorts.
5. Next quite a big problem was location. My friend told me that there is a little stream so when I tried to think of some footage I was thinking it's very little and that Jacob could run after the boat by the side of it. But when I get there I realised it would not be possible as it's actually more like a little river than stream and there are bushes on the sides and no places where the boat can gone.
I planned everything once again in my head, it was actually something completely different from what I draw in my workbook (storyboard). But who said that movie have to be exactly the same as a book? There are always some differences, and I wanted to make this film as in modern times anyway, so it all fit in that. And I am quite happy anyway!
